Deutsch: Aktuelle Bilder der vom Deutschen Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) betriebenen, hochauflösenden Stereokamera HRSC auf der ESA-Sonde Mars Express zeigen einen Ausläufer des Gebiets Aurorae Chaos - eine östliche Fortsetzung des gewaltigen Canyonsystems der Valles Marineris auf dem Mars. Aurorae Chaos verbindet auf einer Fläche von etwas mehr als der Hälfte der Größe Deutschlands das Grabenbruchsystem der Valles Marineris mit dem Ganges Chasma. Hierdurch und weiter über die sich anschließenden Gebiete müssen einst enorme Wassermassen in Richtung der nördlichen Tiefebene geflossen sein.
Die topographische Karte zeigt die große, mehrere tausend Meter Tiefe Senke von Aurorae Chaos, eingebettet zwischen vier ausgedehnten Blöcken des Marshochlandes auf etwa zehn Grad südlicher Breite. Von Südwesten her münden die Täler von Capri und Eos Chasma in Aurorae; Eos Chasma, das "Tal der Morgenröte", bildet die östliche Fortsetzung des Grabenbruchsystems der fast viertausend Kilometer langen Valles Marineris. Die hier vorgestellten Bilder stammen aus dem kleinen Rechteck des vom Kamerasystem HRSC aufgenommenen Bildstreifen in Orbit 14635.
