Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Tourmaline
Locality: Jonas Mine, Conselheiro Pena, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil (Locality at mindat.org)
This is a FLOATER CLUSTER of classic, cranberry-red tourmaline crystals from THE most famous pocket of tourmaline ever hit in Brazil (at least, in most people's opinion), back some 30 years now. Every crystal is doubly-terminated and floating in a matrix of rich purply lepidolite - the classic association for the locale. So many we see, that have survived and come back around to the present market, are just singles. This one is complete and undamaged all around. It has the unique cranberry-red color that few tourmalines from other localities come close to. It has very high lustre and is also somewhat gemmier in person than it appears here (though not entirely transparent). A specimen like this, with not just the quality and color but also a matrixy aspect, is EXTREMELY uncommon. It is one of a very few such specimens I have seen on the market in the last decade 7 x 5 x 3 cm
