Route of the expedition: "Traces in the Empty Quarter"

Summary[edit]

Description
English: From the beginning of November to the end of December 2023, an Austrian-German expedition team managed a southwest-northeast crossing through the entire Rub-al-Khali region on the Saudi Arabian side. On a 1500km route through partly still completely unexplored areas, new geological and archaeological scientific findings were collected and documented. In the field of palaeo-lake research, sites that had previously only been investigated on satellite images were now actually explored in the field. The mission called "Traces in the Empty Quarter" is one of the most recent documented crossings.
