Equivalent circuit of electrical transmission line

Summary[edit]

Description
English: An equivalent circuit of a length of transmission line or electrical cable. The inductors (L) represent the series distributed inductance per unit length of the line's conductors, and the capacitors (C) represent the shunt distributed capacitance per unit length between the conductors. An actual cable would also have a series resistance R and a shunt conductance G per unit length. This model represents a lossless transmission line with negligible series resistance and shunt conductance between its conductors. An electric current applied to one end of the transmission line travels at a speed below the speed of light because it must charge the capacitance of the line C and the current is slowed by the inductance L of the conductors.
