tungsten halogen cycle in halogen lamps

Summary[edit]

Description
English: In the cooler areas of the atmosphere inside the bulb, tungsten atoms can react with iodine and an oxygen-source (e.g. traces of water) to WO2I2. The compound eventually decomposes in a multistep reaction, mainly to WO2. This compound dissociates at the hot areas around the filament. The tungsten atoms can condesate at the filament.
