Description
English: U.S. Navy salvage parties at work on the captured German submarine U-505, as a Grumman TBM Avenger of Composite Squadron 8 (VC-8) circles overhead, 4 June 1944. In the background is the destroyer escort USS Chatelain (DE-149), whose depth charge attack forced the submarine's crew to surface and abandon their ship.
