[edit]DescriptionU-Boot Deutschland 1916.jpg | The German merchant submarine Deutschland at Baltimore, Maryland (USA), on 9-10 July 1916. She loaded 348 t of caoutchouc (rubber), 341 t of nickel and 93 t of tin. After another successful voyage to the U.S. in October 1916 she was converted to a military submarine and commissioned in the Imperial German Navy on 19 February 1917 as U 155. On three patrols she sunk 42 ships for a total of 121.278 tons, and damaged one of 1.338 tons. In 1918 she was surrendered and taken to Britain and exhibited in London and elsewhere. The boat was finally broken up at Morecambe in 1922. | |||||||
