Description |
This photograph depicts the dedication ceremonies of Portsmouth Air Force Base, when it formally opened on June 30, 1956. The base was renamed Pease Air Force Base on September 7, 1957 in honor of World War II Medal of Honor recipient and New Hampshire native, Captain Harl Pease, Jr. of the U.S. Army Air Corps. Pease Air Force Base closed as a result of the 1991 Base Realignment and Closure Commission action.
