English: University of the Philippines Computer Center[1]The U.P. Computer Center is an independent unit of the Diliman campus[2] of the University of the Philippines[3] that provides high-speed computer and information technology services to the University faculty, administration and students. It is now under the Office of the Chancellor of UP Diliman It is housed in the UP Alumni Engineers (UPAE) Building at the back of the Melchor Hall compound. Also called the UP CC (or CC for short), the facility serves as the central hub that interconnects the fiber-optic backbones in UP Diliman and other UP campuses. The center is also the hub of the UP Diliman Wireless Network, which has over 100 WiFi Hot Spots deployed all over the campus as of 2011. The center is administered by a member of the faculty and manned by full-time employees and student assistants. Its current director is Dr. Johnrob Y. Bantang from the National Institute of Physics.[4] [5]The Computer Center and its staff during the 1970s The University Computer Center was established in September 15, 1966 by the University of the Philippines In 2011, the University Computer Center implemented the largest IPv6 network and one of the first in the country. The University Computer Center in Diliman maintains one of the largest campus networks in the country, having laid more than 50 kilometers of fiber optic cables, deploying over 100 wireless hotspots, 1024 Voice over IP (VoIP) phones, and hosting around 80 UP websites through its servers.
