Description
English: Oil stains, greasy coveralls and tools strewn about a garage seems more in line with a Saturday afternoon project than daily life in a combat zone. But for a handful of Marine mechanics serving at Camp Korean Village one of the Marines forward operating bases in Iraq's remote western Al Anbar Province oil stains and tools come with the territory of keeping military vehicles ready for Iraq's brutal roadways. Here, Lance Cpl. Michael C. Peterson, a 20-year-old Marine mechanic from Lake City, Minn., conducts maintenance work and repairs on a Light Armored Vehicle, April 18, 2006 at Camp Korean Village. Peterson is one of about 20 mechanics with the Twentynine Palms, Calif.-based 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion who works long hours to ensure the battalion's fleet of humvees, seven-ton trucks and Light Armored Vehicles are in full working order for service on Iraq's roads. The battalion arrived in Iraq last month to provide security to the region and prepare Iraqi Security Forces to relieve Coalition Forces later this year.
