Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The U.S. Navy destroyer USS McDougal (DD-358) passing under the Cooper River Bridge, Charleston, South Carolina (USA), circa in 1941. The Porter-class destroyers were very top-heavy. One of the first measures to counter this was the removal of the two heavy masts and the reserve torpedoes. The mast forward was replaced by a simple pole mast. No radar has been fittet yet. In July 1942, McDougal received radars. Later, the third turret was removed before she received a thorough reconstruction in 1945.
