Description
English: Ericsson vibrating-lever engine of the American Civil War monitor USS Monadnock (1863). This type of engine had two horizontal annular or ring-shaped cylinders placed back-to-back, with pistons attached to hollow trunks containing the connecting rods. This image shows the port (left) trunk/connecting rod assembly almost at full extension, while the connecting rod and trunk of the starboard (right) cylinder is almost fully retracted.
