Description

U.S. Navy aircraft of Air Task Group 1 (ATG-1) flying past Mount Fuji, Japan. ATG-1 was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Wasp (CVA-18) for a deployment to the Western Pacifc from 1 September 1954 to 11 April 1955. The following aircraft and squadrons are identifiable (right to left):

  • Grumman F9F-2 Panther from either Fighter Squadron 52 (VF-52) "Sandlancers" or VF-151 "Black Knights";
  • Grumman F9F-6 Cougar from VF-111 "Sundowners";
  • Grumman F9F-2 Panther from either Fighter Squadron 52 (VF-52) "Sandlancers" or VF-151 "Black Knights";
  • McDonnell F2H-3 Banshee from Composite Squadron 3 (VC-3) Det.H "Blue Nemesis";
  • Grumman F9F-2 Panther from VF-151 "Black Knights";
  • McDonnell F2H-2P Banshee from VC-61 Det.H "Eyes of the Fleet";
  • Douglas AD-6 Skyraider from VF-194 "Main Battery";
  • Douglas AD-4N Skyraider from VC-35 Det.H "Night Hecklers".
