Under ultraviolet light, scorpions glow in a turquoise color. The jury's stil out on why scorpions reflect short waveleghts of the light specter. We are talking about a nocturnal animal that doesn't relies very much on vision for their hunting expeditions. Role in intraspecific communication has been hypothetized, but seems unlikely. Recently, researchers from the Oklahoma University dicovered the scorpions' tail acts as a sensorial organ capable of perceiving UV/green light. Following these results, they hypothetize the cuticle of scorpions might function as a whole-body photon collector, transducing UV light to cyan-green before relaying this information to the central nervous system.
