(KANEOHE BAY, Hawaii) Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Pacific public-private venture (PPV) partner, Hawaii Military Communities, LLC (a Forest City Enterprises subsidiary), hosted a ceremonial demolition April 15 as it reached a key milestone. Marine Col. Brian Annichiarico, Marine Corps Base Hawaii base commander, operated an excavator to tear down the last old home in the Ulupau neighborhood during the ceremony. This event signified the last of 1,520 homes to be demolished and replaced in this PPV project that started October 2007 and is expected to be completed by April 2014. The Ulupau replacement project was included as Phase 5 of the PPV and was awarded by NAVFAC Pacific Oct. 1, 2010. U.S. Navy photo by Christine Rosalin |
