Summary[edit]

Description

The cannon memorial above was designed by sculptor Leonard Volk, who had designed several of the monuments in Rosehill Cemetery. The monument lists the battles the unit (Battery "A" of the Chicago Light Artillery) participated in as part of the Union Army during the American Civil War (1861-1865).

Battles that Battery A fought in included Fort Donelson (TN), Shiloh (TN), Port Gibson (MS), Raymond (MS), Jackson (MS), Champion Hill (MS), Vicksburg (MS), Chattanooga (TN), Kennesaw Mountain (GA), Atlanta (GA), and Nashville (TN).
