Summary

[edit]
Description

Two United workhorses at Newark.

On the left is a Boeing 737-800; while United Airlines was the first operator of the 737-200 and flew various versions of the 737 continuously from 1968 to 2009, all current United 737s came by way of the Continental merger.

On the right is an Airbus A319, which ended up replacing the 737 fleet at the legacy United. Now that Continental and United are one airline, the two competing aircraft types are often seen working side-by-side. For future aircraft orders, United returns to the 737; an order for 150 aircraft (plus an option for 160), including 100 of the upcoming 737 MAX, would be placed in July 2012, and some of the MAXs will certainly replace the oldest Airbuses.

The 737 had arrived from Las Vegas as United 1176, and is now departing for Fort Lauderdale as United 1226.

The A319 just came from Chicago as United 992, and will return to Chicago as United 494.
