At last I am getting to spot this beauty, even though heat haze, despite the cool temperatures, is becoming an issue. In 2011, to mark the 85th anniversary of United Airlines (1926 - founding of Varney Air Lines), United took this aircraft, and based on employee vote, applied the 1972 "Friend Ship" livery to it. This livery is also commonly known by a nickname, "Stars and Bars." The retrojet is arriving from Washington Dulles, operating United 382. Four United liveries are concurrently present at LAX for the afternoon: in addition to this retrojet, United's final remaining Battleship Gray aircraft had also just arrived, and the standard Disco Ball and Blue Tulip aircraft of course are present in plentiful numbers.
