| Description | The United States Post Office in Belvidere (1911). In 1905, a Rockford newspaper noted that Belvidere had been selected to receive a $55,000 Federal structure. Most residents of Belvidere wanted the post office near the National Sewing Machine factory, the largest employer in town. Eventually, a spot was chosen on the north side of the Chicago & North Western railroad line, next to the factory. It opened on October 11, 1911 under postmaster Frank T. Moran. Charles Eugene Fuller, a Congressman from Belvidere, ensured that the public funds were available for the building, which was built in the Classical Revival style. |
