Summary
[edit]DescriptionUranium production-en.svg |
Natural resources and CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions for one year of EPR nuclear power station service. The graph is only about the combustible production: energy resources and emissions referred to power station and facilities construction (~12 g of CO2 for each KWh), waste management (estimated at 30~65 gCO2/KWh) ad final decommissioning, are excluded. Numbers are referred to rocks and soils now available, with a good % of uranium: while mineral quality decrease due to the use of less-rich or unconventional sources, the global balance will change.Notice also that the amount of moved material (8 million tons) is considerably greater than the amount of coal required to produce the same power in coal-fired power stations (~2.57 TWh for each coal million of tons [1], so ~4.7 Mtons for 12TWh) |
