Description
English: "Vardøhus Festning, Norway's northernmost fortress," postcard likely published sometime in the early 1900s, with an unsigned illustration of Vardøhus Fortress in Finnmark, Norway, based on the Norwegian artist Johannes Flintoe's drawing or a motif created by Peder Balke. The picture on the postcard was originally featured as an illustration in the book "Norge fremstillet i Tegninger," which contained large lithographs of Norwegian cities, landscapes, and national romantic scenes, and was published by Christian Tønsberg in the mid-1800s.

  • Motivet er basert på tegning av Johannes Flintoe (1878–1870) eller et motiv av Peder Balke (1804–1887). Postkortmotivet er en direkte kopi av «Vardöhuus fæstning", en av illustrasjonene i P.Chr. Asbjørnsens plansjeverk Norge fremstillet i Tegninger utgitt av Chr. Tønsberg i 1848, Balkes originalmotiv er avtegnet som litografi av Em. Bærentzen & Co lith. Inst. i København.
  • Ukjent dato, men postkortet er trolig utgitt helt først på 1900-tallet.
  • Adressesida av kortet er merket med Verdenspostforeningen.(Union postale universelle.) Brevkort fra Norge (Norvège) (Paa denne Side skrives kun Adressen.) og signaturen «F. & R.» som utgiver eller trykkeri.
