In this image we can see a woman walking in Victoria Square in Adelaide. In the far background is the original Post Office of South Australia. Victoria Square is bordered by numerous public institutions at its north and south ends, includ the Supreme Court of South Australia, the Adelaide Magistrates' Court, the Federal Court of Australia, the historic old Treasury building (now a hotel run by the Adina hotel chain) and the Adelaide General Post Office.The General Post Office clock tower is named the Victoria Tower and was the tallest building in Adelaide into the twentieth century. It was a significant public building for Adelaide when it was built and continues to function as a post office and a city landmark over 140 years later. This image is a part of a wider series of photgraphs taken by Captain Frank Hurley in 1935.
