Summary[edit]

Description
English: Belmont Village Hall, 1 Schuyler Street at South Street, Belmont, New York, June 2021. Erected in 1910, here we have a fine example of the Colonial Revival civic architecture typical of its day that is regal and elegant, yet with an unpretentious "downhome" type of look that fits in well with its small-town milieu. Of course, the most striking feature of the building is its massive two-story Ionic portico, where a massive frieze features the triglyphs, metopes, and guttae typical of the Doric order, the columns are reflected on the façade proper with Doric pilaster strips, and a handsome decorative balustrade tops everything off. But it's elsewhere in the design where the defining principles of the Colonial Revival really shine through: windows are either flat-headed and topped with keystone-studded splayed lintels, or else round-arched, sporting spiderweb muntins in the fanlights. Atop the shallow-pitched hip roof is a diminutive octagonal cupola with engaged Ionic columns undergirding a bell-shaped roof.
