English: Villu Paatu (English: Bow Song, Malayalam: വില്ലുപാട്ട്, Tamil: வில்லுப்பாட்டு), also known as Villadichampaatu is an ancient form of musical story-telling in India where narration is interspersed with music, an art of southern state of Kerala and Thovalai in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu.[1] This art form is popular among Nadar and Chettiar castes of erstwhile Travancore kingdom.
தமிழ்: வில்லுப்பாட்டு (அல்லது வில்லிசை) என்பது தமிழர் கலை வடிவங்களில் ஒன்றாகும். வில்லின் துணைகொண்டு பாடப்படும் பாட்டு வில்லுப்பாட்டு எனப் பெயர் பெற்றது. துணை இசைக்கருவிகள் பல இருப்பினும் வில்லே இங்கு முதன்மை பெறுகிறது. துணைக்கருவிகளாகப் பயன்படுத்தப்படுபவை: உடுக்கை, குடம், தாளம், கட்டை என்பனவாகும்.
Français : Le villuppattu ou villadichampatu (« chant d'arc ») est un art populaire rituel des temples hindous tamouls et kéralais qui consiste en une forme de narration entrecoupée de musique. L'ensemble musical se scinde parfois en deux groupes antagonistes et on parle alors de lavani Patuu.
हिन्दी: विल्लुपाट्ट (मलयालम : വില്ലുപാട്ട്, तमिल:வில்லுப்பாட்டு) एक प्राचीन संगीतमय कथाकथन है जो केरल के दक्षिणी भागओं तथा तमिलनाडु के कन्याकुमारी जिले तथा तोवलै जिले में प्रचलित है। यह संगीत भूतपूर्व त्रावणकोर राज्य के मुख्यतः नादर और चेत्तियार जातियों में प्रचलित है। धनुष (या, विल्लु) इस संगीत का मुख्य वाद्ययन्त्र है।
Deutsch: Villu Pattu, auch Villu Paatu, Villuppattu, ist eine Volksliedgattung in der südindischen Musik, die in einigen Gebieten von Tamil Nadu und Kerala bei Tempelfesten aufgeführt wird. Der Begriff setzt sich aus vil oder villu, tamil: வில்லு, telugu: విల్లు, „Bogen“ und pāṭṭu, „Lied“ zusammen. Das charakteristische Begleitinstrument der alten Erzähltradition ist ein zwei bis vier Meter langer Musikbogen, der villadi vadyam genannt wird. Zur Schallverstärkung wird der Bogen etwas außerhalb der Mitte über einen Tontopf gelegt.
