Summary[edit]
DescriptionVine Street, Over-the-Rhine, Cincinnati, OH (27228446667).jpg | As you move further down Vine Street towards the boundary between Downtown and Over-the-Rhine, Central Parkway, the buildings as a whole become in better condition, owing to the fact that the revitalization of Over-the-Rhine is partially an outgrowth of the revitalization of Downtown Cincinnati that started in the mid-to-late 1990s with the redevelopment of Fort Washington Way and The Banks at the Riverfront. These beautiful buildings were primarily constructed in the 19th Century, and have mostly been renovated and filled with new businesses and apartments. The building in the first picture features a lion's head on its cornice, while the next two are of The Kirby, which houses apartments and stretches back to Republic Street. The next several buildings are all wonderful examples of the diversity in historic architectural expression found throughout the district, especially on the more commercial streets - Main Street and Vine Street. The preservation and revitalization of these buildings is only the beginning, with other parts of the neighborhood currently being redeveloped, and others still being in a state of neglect and decline. One day, all of Over-the-Rhine will be, once again, vibrant like this section is, and will be among the best historic urban neighborhoods in the country. OTR also is a show of potential of what could be in store for other historic neighborhoods in the city. |
