Summary[edit]

Description These historic buildings at the corner of East McMicken Street and Vine Street in Over-the-Rhine are apparently slated for rehabilitation in the next few years. The building on the left is a wide but quite common Italianate structure, with two storefront at Street level flanking a central breezeway-type entryway to the apartments on the upper floors, two full floors of housing above, and an ornate bracketed cornice just below the roofline, and likely dates to the mid-to-late 19th Century. The building to its right is a Romanesque Revival-style structure with four floors of housing above a street-level storefront, which was filled in for additional privacy in the mid-to-late 20th Century. It too has a breezeway-type upper floor entry on the left hand side, but this is boarded up for security reasons due to the building being vacant. A shorter structure to the left of the previous one I detailed, also Romanesque Revival, is different in that it has only three floors above the storefront level, a much more ornate entrance to the upper floors, and a much different facade rhythm, was definitely constructed in the same era, which I believe to be the late 19th Century. This shorter building also adjoins the neighborhood fire station, located to the east of this structure, which was constructed in the 1950s. The continued Renaissance of Over-the-Rhine is spectacular to witness, and it is my hope that these buildings are restored back to their former glory and once again contribute to the vitality and vibrancy of the neighborhood and the city as a whole.
