Description
English: "The Virgin of the Rosary with Four Saints" (national treasure). Source: anonymous. Early 17th century. Oil painting on brass plate. 30.2 x 24.2 cm. Sendai City Museum (Sendai, Japan). Materials related to the Keicho Mission to Europe. This is a painting that is said to have been brought back by Hasekura Tsunenaga. The Virgin Mary, standing on a crescent moon, holds the infant Christ, both holding rosaries. The two are also surrounded by a rosary with rose flowers, with God the Father and angels in the heavens and four saints on the earth. In the center of the screen, a large vertical scratch remains.
