English: Ivory jewellery box: This antique jewellery box (decorated with ivory) is also known as 'Vizagapatam jewellery box' as they were made in erstwhile Vizagapatam during British Raj, now Visakhapatnam (Vizag). One of the most popular artefact dating back to the 19th century, used for safekeeping of jewellery. The ivory design on the box depicting Vizag sea, light house and ships, intricately handcrafted by then artisans in the city. These rare artefacts which represents our city's rich cultural heritage can be seen at some of the museums across the country and abroad today! |
