Literature and Sources:
- M. Sigl et al.: Timing and climate forcing of volcanic eruptions for the past 2,500 years. In: Nature. 2015. DOI: 10.1038/nature14565
First, the data provided by Sigl et al. (2015) has been split into four space-separated files (first column: year, second column: forcing):
- volcanic_forcing_t.csv for tropical eruptions,
- volcanic_forcing_n.csv with eruptions in northern hemisphere
- volcanic_forcing_s.csv with eruptions in southern hemisphere
- volcanic_forcing_m.csv with forcing < -10 W/m2
Then the plot has been created with Gnuplot 4.4 using the following script:
set terminal svg enhanced size 1250 400 fname "Nimbus Sans L" fsize 12
set output "volcanic_forcing-reconstructed-de.svg"
set title "Globaler Strahlungsantrieb durch vulkanische Aerosole 500 v.u.Z. - 2000 n.u.Z" font "Nimbus Sans L, 20"
set label 'Sigl u.a. (2015)' at screen 0.98,0.9 right
set label '(Eruptionen < -10 W/m^2 mit Jahresangabe)' at screen 0.97,0.68 right
set datafile missing '"#N/A"'
set obj 1 rectangle behind from screen 0,0 to screen 1,1
set obj 1 fillstyle solid 1.0 fillcolor rgbcolor "white"
