Description
English: Au centre de la " vieille ville " se dresse l'église Notre-Dame, depuis le clocher, un correspondant de guerre américain prend cette photo en direction de l'Est, vers le secteur où l'éperon se rattache au plateau.

A droite de la photo, les véhicules roulent sur la Rue Havin de/vers la Place de Strasbourg (l'espace blanc, qui n'existe plus aujourd'hui). En arrière plan, le grand bâtiment est le Lycée Verrier. En premier plan, l'arrière de l'Hôtel de Ville. Au centre, la Rue Carnot - qui n'existe plus - avec les ruines de la Préfecture à gauche, le Tribunal (avec son fronton triangulaire) avec la Prison juste derrière sur la droite. Aujourd'hui c'est la Place Général de Gaulle. Les véhicules montent/descendent la Rue Neufbourg en direction de la Place Saint-Croix. A gauche, la Poste, le Champ de Mars (l'espace blanc) avec au fond l'Eglise Sainte-Croix (le long de laquelle a été déposé le corps du Major Howie) et à sa gauche et derrière, le Vieux Haras (aujourd'hui des immeubles).
