Deutsch: Das Wappen am Waldkircher Rathausportal stellt eine Kombination der Balthasar Merklin vom Kaiser überlassenen österreichischen Lehen dar. Der Schild ist durch einen Pfahl in den österreichischen Farben gespalten. Oben in Gold ein schwarzer Pfeil, unten in Rot (2:1) drei silberne Späne. (Hildebrand Spenli von Breisach gilt als der erste Lehensträger der Burg Sponeck am Kaiserstuhl. Kaiser Karl V. hat 1521 Österreich seinem Bruder Ferdinand überlassen. Die Herrschaft Sponeck ging damals von einer Hand in die andere. Das Haus Österreich hatte die "Fahr", d.h. den Rheinübergang, der wohl das einzig Wertvolle an dem Gut war, vorbehalten. Wahrscheinlich kam Sponeck durch König Ferdinand von Österreich um 1520 als Lehen an Merklin.) Der hintere Teile des Schildes zeigt in Gold einen abgeschnittenen, rot bewehrten Adlerfuß mit rotem Anschnitt, das Wappen vom österreichischen Lehen von Keppenbach. Dessen Schloss war 1525 von den Bauern zerstört worden. Ehe es Merklin zum Kauf gegeben wurde, war es im Besitz des Georg von Weiholtzhausen, der es am 9. Dezember 1529 an Balthasar, Bischof von Malta etc. verkaufte. Der Lehensherr hoffte, dass das zerstörte Schloss von den Lehensträgern wiederaufgebaut würde. Dazu kam es nicht. Merklin, der den Besitz nicht selbst verwalten mochte, gab ihn weiter an Hans Jacob Welsinger und an seine beiden Söhne Carl Brixentius und Mauritius von Waltkirch. |
