Summary

[edit]
Description The wild horse gather of the Warm Springs Herd started Oct. 2, 2018, in southeast Oregon with 62 horses gathered. The Warm Springs Herd Management Area comprises about 475,000 acres of public land south of Hines, Oregon. That range area can sustain 96 to 178 horses, but the current population is over 800 horses. Approximately 650 excess wild horses will be removed from the range during this gather, which will utilize a helicopter. The gather is expected to last up to 10 days, depending on the availability of the contractor being used. There were no horse deaths reported. Seven public observers were present for the gather.
