| Description |
Cherry blossoms were not Washington's only famous flowers. Every spring, the National Park Service planted thousands of tulips and other bulbs in downtown Washington. I saw a figure of 250,000 tulips and 75,000 daffodils and other bulbs for one year. I photographed these tulips near the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and 14th Street. The Department of Commerce building is in the background. I do not know whether the National Park Service still plants masses of tulips in Wasington. I could not find recent references to tullips in Washington, apart from displays at hotels and other private areas. |
