Wildfires are very common during the dry season in The Gambia, resulting in huge losses of vegetation and wildlife, and depriving livestock of fodder. The reduction in vegetative cover caused by wildfires also contribute to soil erosion (by wind and water), and hence, a reduction in soil fertility which in turn reduces crop yields, and food production.
