Deutsch: Kolorierte Ansichtskarte Nummer 1417 aus dem Verlag der Wilhelm Hoffmann AG mit Sitz in Dresden, betitelt

„Hannover. Georgstraße“

Die im Bildzentrum zu sehende platzartige Erweiterung der Georgstraße lag zum Zeitpunkt der Aufnahmen zugleich im Schnittpunkt der strahlenförmig abzweigenden Straßen (von links) Limburgstraße, Schmiedestraße, Schillerstraße Georgstraße, Nordmannstraße, Kanalstraße, Schillerstraße und wieder der Georgstraße, die hier den Steintor-Platz bildeten. Das Gebäude ganz rechts im Bild ist das 1859 im Rundbogenstil als romanischer Backsteinbau 1859 durch den Architekten Hermann Hunaeus errichtete Haus Cohen in der damaligen Georgstraße 35. In dem Gebäude befand sich auch das Atelier des jüdischen Architekten Edwin Oppler. Bereits nach weniger als einem halben Jahrhundert musste das Haus Cohen dem 1903 eröffneten Herren- und Knaben-Bekleidungshaus Ernst Zeyn weichen, in dem 1925 die siebte Filiale von Brenninkmeyer C & A Mode eröffnete.

In der Bildmitte erhebt sich das Gebäude Nordmannstraße 20, in dem im Erdgeschoss die Hannoversche Kofferwarenfabrik Th. Tiedjens ihre Produkte anbietet. Genau hier wird später - zur Zeit der Weimarer Republik, die Steintorhalle neu gestaltet, in der während der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus mancher Jugendliche trotz Verbotes nach Swing-Musik tanzen sollte ...
