William Sulzer was the 39th Governor of New York, serving only one half of his term in 1913. He was impeached in August 1913 and convicted the following October. He was removed from office following his conviction. The American Review of Reviews regarded the impeachment as politically motivated. Though supported by Tammany Hall, Sulzer commenced his term by following many progressive policies, largely disregarding Tammany demands. Tammany Hall had strong influence over both the New York State Senate and Assembly; the Assembly initiated impeachment on August 13, 1913.
