This large watercolor by William Henry Hunt was first exhibited at the 1844 Spring Exhibition of the Society of Painters in Water-colours under the title, The Toilet. By the time it was included in the 1857 Manchester exhibition of The Art Treasures of Great Britain, it was known as Preparing for the Soiree.
