English: "The Macrocephalus of Georgia": William Thomas Andrews, born 1840 in Greene County, Georgia. Mother, widowed in 1851, had 8 other children (all normal). No history of deformities in the family. No signs of abnormality at birth, head growth commenced rapidly at 2 weeks. Growth continued for 12 months, but stopped at this point. No head growth since age 13. Rheumatism in the lower limbs. Epilepsy from age 10, occasional diarrhea. Irregular appetite, seldom overeats. Coffee is "uppermost in his thoughts and wishes"; fond of spiritous liquors, but "they disorder his system with feverish symptoms." Strong sense of smell, was able to determine a guest was drunk. Enjoys "simple music" with singing which he sometimes takes part in. Eyes "somewhat prominent". Upper lip hair present. Hair is "rather thinner" than usual, soft with a " dark chesnut (sic) color". Scrotum normal except for monorchis. Spine and trunk short, small hairy legs. "William's mind is sometimes vacant, inactive and inattentive, compared with its more habitual mental manifestations ... are intermitting, transient and feeble." Faint notion of money, likely cannot count past 2 or 3. No curiosity to see or know anything, never "angry, impatient, or revengeful"; cannot make fundamental distinctions. Some notion of danger; makes a peculiar sigh recalling his having exploded the cap of a gun, would tell family when their fierce dog barked at visitors. Remembers promises made to him. Feeble memory and hope. Only color he can focus on is red. Distinguishes his home and other places. Sometimes annoyed and fatigued by visitors. Sympathy/affection for his mother and younger brothers.
