English: Four of the 44 wind turbines near Thomas, WV; site of the "Mountaineer Wind Energy Center". Together they produce 66MW. The site is owned by FPL Energy (Florida Power and Light). Photo taken in summer of 2003. I'm not sure where I took this exactly, it was on a major route where one of the turbines (the one in the foreground) is only 50 or 100 feet from the road. (They produce a rather mesmerizing sound. I wish I had a recording of it.) I have several more photos of more artistic, but somewhat less representative quality. |
