Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Wing-Booth House, 52 Woodward Avenue at Robie Street, Buffalo, New York, July 2021. A particularly exuberant example of the Queen Anne style of architecture that was all the rage around the time of the house's construction (1895), the eye-catching details here are the conical-roofed, pinnacle-topped corner tower, the rough-textured, irregularly-coursed brownstone siding on the ground floor, and the twin entrances variously facing Woodward Avenue and Robie Street, both enclosed by partial-width porches accented by Doric columns, and the former of which is topped with a balustraded second-floor balcony. Original owner Watson E. Wing (1857-1948) was working as an insurance agent at the time he moved in, but would soon be hired by the Larkin Soap Company where he would eventually rise to the post of head of the bookkeeping department. Wing sold the house in 1904 to his co-worker Clarence F. Booth (1855-1929), a chemist by trade who worked for Larkin as a perfume formulator.
