Winter rains are finally contributing to the improvement of the drought conditions in Spain.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Winter rains are finally contributing to the improvement of the drought conditions in Spain. According to data from the SAIH (Automatic Monitoring of Hydrographic Information), the water level in the Yesa reservoir, which was at an alarmingly low of 16% of its capacity last summer, has now risen significantly to about 45% , with an increase of approximately 6% over the last week. The increase in water levels of the reservoir is a positive sign for the region and its inhabitants, as Yesa is the is a source of drinking water for tens of thousands of people living in the Navarra and Aragón autonomous regions. This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites, shows the Yesa reservoir on 30 January 2023. Open data retrieved by the Copernicus Sentinel satellites provide key information useful to accurately map lakes and reservoirs and extract critical information about the changes in their water levels.
