| Description | On Friday night, I drove into Charlottetown to pick up Arthur (Jr.) and Jim, coming in from New York via Montréal and Phoenix via Detroit respectively. This is Arthur's plane coming in, shot from the fence just steps away from the arrivals entrance (or should that be exit?). This really helps take away the guesswork and the expectant alternating glances at the video display and the arrivals gate. Arthur and I went out for supper and then we came back to pick up Jim - we were wondering how they'd process an international arrival at such a small airport (Jim's plane was an <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northwest_Airlines">NWA</a> <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadair_Regional_Jet">CRJ</a> similar to Arthur's that you see here - perhaps small airports are permitted to take international arrivals provided that they are on tiny planes), but we quickly figured it out when we discovered that the baggage carousels and arrivals gate were cordoned off by a movable wall. A man stood by a nondescrepit door, opening and closing it per radioed instructions from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada_Border_Services_Agency">CBSA</a> personnel, and welcomed travellers to Prince Edward Island. We wated about twenty minutes for Jim, as he was behind a group of Japanese tourists who didn't speak English or French, and whose interpreters were on our side of the barrier - apparently both parties had to use a lot of hand signals, but everything got sorted out. So then Jim and Art and I went for dessert, then we headed back east. |
