35 mm slide; color. Scientific Classification: Kingdom: Animalia; Phylum: Chordata; Class: Mammalia; Order: Marsupialia; Family: Potoroidae; Genus: Bettongia; Genus species: Bettongia penicillata. Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 30-38 cm; Weight: 1.1-1.6 kg; Identification: The woylie is a gray-brown grizzled color with silver on the upper parts and buff on the lower face, flanks, and thighs. It has pale bare skin around the eyes and cream underparts. The tail has a black crest with longer fur on the top; Habitat: Open forests and woodlands; Diet: Omnivore: tubers, roots, seeds, fruit, fungi and termites; Reproduction: This species continuously breeds throughout the year. Mothers carry a single young in their pouch for 90 days, allowing them to remain with them until the next baby is born. Woylies can live for 4-5 years; Behavior: Like many marsupials, these animals are nocturnal. They also live in underground burrows; Status: Endangered; Interesting Facts: The woylie is the smallest and most rare kangaroo in the world.
