Deutsch: Die Tafelrunde von Sanssouci
Seit 1747 versammelte Friedrich der Große einen kleinen Kreis aufgeklärter und unterhaltsamer Freunde an seiner Tafel: sommers in Sanssouci, winters im Potsdamer Stadtschloss. Ob Atheist, Protestant oder Katholik, ob Schotte, Italiener, Franzose oder Preuße, sie fanden sich regelmäßig an der Tafel des Preußenkönigs ein und bauten diskutierend an dem Gedankengebäude der Aufklärung. Adolph von Menzels berühmtes Bild dieser Tafelrunde ist leider 1945 zerstört werden, hier eine Kopie aus den 1920er Jahren (sein. Michaelis). An der königlichen Tafel war die Philosophie - an seiner absoluten Autorität im Staat erlaubte der König jedoch niemanden zu rütteln. Im Gegensatz zu fast allen anderen europäischen Staaten im 18. Jahrhundert herrschte im Preußen Friedrichs des Großen aber Glaubens- und Gewissensfreiheit, und die Folter war abgeschafft. Der König und seine Gäste disputierten vornehmlich über die Philosophie der französischen Aufklärung mit ihren stark religionskritischen Zügen. Daneben trat in der zweiten Hälfte des Jahrhunderts in Berlin um den Dichter Gotthold Ephraim Lessing (1729 Kamenz-1781 Berlin), den jüdischen Philosophen Moses Mendelssohn (1729 Dessau-1786 Berlin), den Verleger Christoph Friedrich Nicolai (1733 Berlin-1811 ebenda) und weitere Persönlichkeiten eine ganz eigene, bürgerliche Aufklärung an die Öffentlichkeit, die der älter gewordene König jedoch nicht mehr zur Kenntnis nehmen wollte. Zahlreiche Salons wurden begründet, in denen debattiert wurde, eine Vielzahl von Zeitschriften erschien. Die Berliner Akademie der Wissenschaften erlangte internationale Bedeutung. Durch Moses Mendelssohn nahm aus dem Berliner jüdischen Bürgertum heraus die jüdische Aufklärungsbewegung „Haskala“ ihren Ausgang, warb für die Gleichberechtigung der Juden und verbreitete den Gedanken der Toleranz bis nach Russland. Im Zentrum der Berliner Spätaufklärung stand die Mittwochsgesellschaft, deren bevorzugte Zeitschrift die 'Berlinische Monatsschrift' war. In dieser Zeitschrift veröffentlichte Immanuel Kant (1724 Königsberg-1804 ebenda) im Dezember 1784 seinen berühmten Aufsatz: »Beantwortung der Frage: Was ist Aufklärung? Aufklärung ist der Ausgang des Menschen aus seiner selbst verschuldeten Unmündigkeit. Unmündigkeit ist das Unvermögen, sich seines Verstandes ohne Leitung eines anderen zu bedienen. Selbstverschuldet ist diese Unmündigkeit, wenn die Ursache derselben nicht am Mangel des Verstandes, sondern der Entschließung und des Mutes liegt, sich seiner ohne Leitung eines anderen zu bedienen. Sapere aude! Habe Mut, dich deines eigenen Verstandes zu bedienen! ist also der Wählspruch der Aufklärung.“ |
