Deutsch: Kurfürstin Anna, Prinzessin von Preußen (1576-1624)
Am 30. Oktober 1594 heiratete Kurprinz Johann Sigismund von Brandenburg seine entfernte Cousine Anna von Preußen. Die Schwiegermutter Marie Eleonore hatte ihm zwar warnend geschrieben, ihre Tochter sei „keine der Schönsten?, aber Anna brachte von mütterlicher Seite wohlhabende Erblande am Rhein mit in die Ehe. 1609 erbte sie das Herzogtum Kleve mit den Grafschaften Mark und Ravensberg im Westen. Die Hohenzollern herrschten nun auch an Rhein und Ruhr, in Bochum, Duisburg, Elberfeld (Wuppertal) und Wesel sowie in der Leinenstadt Bielefeld. Als Annas Vater 1618 starb, erhielt Johann Sigismund außerdem das Herzogtum Preußen als polnisches Lehen. Durch die beiden Erbschaften hatte sich die Herrschaft der brandenburgischen Hohenzollern auf über 80.000 km2 mehr als verdoppelt Anna spielte bei dem Ringen um die Erbschaften selbst eine sehr engagierte Rolle, denn Johann Sigismund erwies sich als schwerer, selbst für damalige Verhältnisse übermäßig zum Alkohol neigender Herrscher. Bei den Streitigkeiten zwischen den kurfürstlichen Eheleuten soll nicht selten Geschirr zu Bruch gegangen sein. Kurfürstin Anna engagierte sich selbst für ihr preußisches und rheinisches Erbe. Als Kurfürst Johann Sigismund 1613 zum Kalvinismus übertrat, blieb Anna bei ihrem lutherischen Glauben und setzte durch, dass die brandenburgischen Untertanen ebenfalls von einer Zwangskonversion verschont blieben. Sie legte damit den Grundstein für die spätere preußische Glaubens- und Gewissensfreiheit.
