Description
中文（繁體）：隱身在一片綠油油的水田之中，劉宅的紅瓦巧妙地點綴這片田地。

新埔上枋寮劉宅興建於1781（乾隆46）年，於1985（民國74）年指定為文化資產。1755（乾隆20）年，劉氏第十一世祖劉瑞閣之妻詹氏攜其三子劉延轉、劉延臼、劉延楹，由廣東省饒平縣楊康鄉渡海來臺。長子劉延轉，後於枋寮開基立業，依照原鄉故居形式，興建這座四合院。1919年（大正8年），劉宅進行整修，左右兩側新增了三排橫屋，形成如今的「二堂六橫」格局，共有九十九間房間。由於屋分前、後兩堂，故又稱「雙堂屋」。

劉宅由橫屋和門廳環繞形成一個禾埕，整體呈現ㄇ字型平面。層層向外堆疊的橫屋，展現了鄉紳大宅的宏偉氣勢。1983年（民國72年），為紀念被劉氏後裔奉為開基祖的劉瑞閣，在劉宅後方建造了一座壯闊的家族墓園，名為「瑞閣園」，作為凝聚家族精神的所在地。

上枋寮劉宅坐東北朝西南，前面平原、背靠山脈，符合「前敞後實」的風水觀念。此外，「瑞閣園」建造於隆起的小丘上，具有客家風水上的「化胎」概念。劉宅西側為高鐵駛經路線，因高鐵而鑿出的隧道口，與瑞閣園平行相望。高鐵軌道的架設直線畫過義民路，自劉宅座向朝南一路延伸。從山脈中駛出的高鐵，也為劉宅穿引出不同的視覺路徑。
