Note that the inner layers of the envelopes of B and C are smooth, while the outer layers are ornamented. E-G, extant embryos of rotifer Asplanchna ebbesbornii (1). E, ornamented fertilized egg undergoing cell division. F, two-celled embryo. G, four-celled embryo. v.m. = vitelline membrane; e.sh. = egg-shell membrane.
