Summary
[edit]DescriptionYoung-Quinlan Building, 9th Street and Nicollet Avenue, Minneapolis, MN.jpg |
English: Built in 1926, this 5-story Spanish Revival and Renaissance Revival-style building was built to house the Young-Quinlan Department Store, founded by Elizabeth Quinlan, the first female clothing buyer in the United States, and was designed by Frederick L. Ackerman and Magney & Tusler. The building was constructed to accommodate a planned but never built 7-story addition on the roof, and features a limestone base, decorative elements including twisted pilasters and broken pediments on the second and fifth floors, arched storefront openings, marble door surrounds, a brown brick facade, and faux balconies with balustrades on the second floor. The building today is home to a variety of retail tenants on the lower floors, and commercial offices on the upper floors. |
