Description Detail vom Portal des Zürcher Rathauses (Ostseite). Die Inschrift lautet „DEO ET PATRIÆ SAC[ræ(1)/ra(2)]. HÆC CURIA JUSSU ET AUSPICIIS S[enatus]·P[opuli]·Q[ue]·T[uricensis]· E FUNDAM[ento]. EXTR[ucta]. ET COND[ita]. EST ANNO CHR[isti]. MDCXCIV. ET SEQQ [sequentibus]“, deutsch: „Gott und dem heiligen Vaterland [gewidmet] (1)/Gott und dem Vaterland geweiht (2), wurde dieses Behördengebäude auf Geheiß und unter Aufsicht des Zürcher Senats und Volkes auf dem Fundament errichtet und gegründet im Jahre Christi 1694 und folgenden“. Die Abkürzung S.P.Q.T. ist ein Bezug auf die bekannte Abkürzung S.P.Q.R. der Stadtrepublik Rom. Statt Senatus Populusque Romanus heißt es Senatus Populusque Turicensis (Zürich = lat. Turicum).
