Summary
[edit]DescriptionZuist calendar.svg |
Astronomical calendar for Zuism (Sumerian religion). It is based upon the following sources:
It reproduces, especially, the Mesopotamian calendar found at p. 95 of Didier (2009), Vol. I. The calendar is a map of the constellations of the north celestial pole, with the ecliptic north pole at the centre, which is within the coil of the constellation Draco (here not represented). ⓪ The whole north celestial pole astral map is An/Dingir ("Heaven"/"God"), the supreme God of the universe, also identified as the ecliptic centre itself. His chariot, MULMar.gid.da.an.na, the "STARChariot of Heaven", is the Little Bear/Little Dipper constellation (here not represented) (Rogers, 1998, pp. 18–21). ① The darkest-blue ring just around the centre are the constellations of the "Path of Enlil", constituting the northern or inner sky, with Enlil ("Lord of the Breath") himself specifically identified as MULApin, the "STARPlough", i.e. the constellation Triangulum, which is in the enclosure highlighted by the red line, closer to the centre. Enlil's female, Ninlil ("Lady of the Breath"), is identified with the constellation Big Dipper/Great Chariot, MULMar.gid.da, i.e. "STARChariot" (Rogers, 1998, p. 18). ② The lightest-blue ring are the constellations of the "Path of Enki", constituting the southern or outer sky, with Enki ("Lord of the Earth") himself specifically identified as MULIku, the "STARField", i.e. the constellation Square of Pegasus, which is in the enclosure highlighted by the red line farther from the centre (Rogers, 1998, p. 21). ③ The medium-blue ring between the inner Path of Enlil and the outer Path of Enki is the "Path of An" (Didier, 2009, p. 95). |
